I recommend to use the Final Extract plugin, as it's way easier. If you still want to edit theme.php, please search our boards as this question has already been asked and answered a lot of times.

You would do exactly that, as long as that registered user has the ability to create albums and upload.The user that created the album and admins will be able to see it without a password.
